Orlando, Florida is one of the most exciting places to live. There is something for everyone and with so many events and festivals taking place in the area, you can be sure that your weekend is going to be filled with activity for months to come. If you’re thinking about moving there, then you’re going to need some help moving to Orlando. To help make your move to Orlando smoother, consider some of these tips.

1. Keep GPS Updates

With new construction constantly occurring, you’ll likely find that new roads appear where they weren’t before and old roads no longer take you where you want to go. The key to survival for finding your way around Orlando is to keep your GPS updated.

It’s also important to understand the layout of the area. The North-East part of the area is devoted to downtown Orlando. That’s where you can find all of your shopping and normal downtown needs. The South-West part of Orlando is where the bulk of the big attractions like Disney and Universal Studios is located.

2. Toll Roads

Florida does have a lot of toll roads. You’ll have to deal with them until you establish residency there. Once you’re a resident, you can sign up for a SunPass. This makes getting through toll roads a lot quicker. It will also make sure that you get ahead of the plethora of tourists in the area. Until you establish residency, you’re going to want to have change ready at hand to pay for the tolls.

3. Schools

If you’re a parent, then you’re in luck. The Orlando area has 16 high schools that were impressive enough that they made the Washington Post. A few of them even ranked high in Florida’s overall listing of excellent schools. They also have 30 charter schools with various subsets for special needs students and for focuses on leadership or other character qualities.

4. Move in the Winter

Unless you’re used to humidity and hot temperatures, then you might want to consider moving during the fall or winter months. The temperatures are cooler then and make moving a lot more comfortable to perform. You’ll also have less traffic to tend with since tourists typically visit the major attractions in the summer. Save yourself some sweat and traffic frustration by moving in the cooler months.

5. Explore

Some of the top things to do in Orlando are visiting Disney, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld. However, there are lots of other things to do in the area, too. Orlando isn’t far from the ocean, so you can pack up for a drive and enjoy one of the many warm Florida beaches. If you prefer lakes or pools, you’ll find plenty of those in the area, too.

There are natural parks for you to enjoy and relax in. For those who need a new kind of thrill, you can visit the iFly Orlando Indoor Skydiving building to try your hand at slightly safer skydiving.

6. Second Education

For older kids, they can attend the University of Central Florida. It’s the second-largest university in the United States. There’s also Rollins College to consider which ranks as one of the Best Value private colleges in the country.

7. Backroads

One tool of survival for living in Orlando is knowing the backroads. You don’t want to get stuck on the busy highway if you can help it. Take the time to learn the backroads, so you can safely arrive where you want to on time.
