Rightmove.co.uk sees an early Christmas slowdown in asking prices

Rightmove.co.uk are the first out with their House Price Index for November, which is always oddly in the middle of the month. However for the month upto 6th November their asking price index is -3.2% down.

This is the biggest monthly drop since December 2007 and is means 4 of the last 5 months have been a fall in asking prices.

Of course any ‘winter’ buyers are not helping by hanging back from making purchases, on the hope for some good bargains.

“Agents report that the Christmas slowdown has come early this year, as both would-be buyers and sellers are adopting a ‘wait and see’ policy until the direction of next year’s housing market becomes more apparent,” said Miles Shipside, a Rightmove director.
