So there we were at our investment property trying to finish off some final bits of the refurbishment. We had our 2 kids in tow… Isabella is 2 and Sienna is 8 months old. Unfortunately no babysitters were available so we had no choice. It was a beautiful sunny day and we did feel a little guilty about taking our kids to the property. But it was only a couple of hours after all and if you want to live a different life than the usual rat race then you have to make some sacrifices!
One of my jobs was de-weeding the front garden. Sienna was sat in her pram making lots of noise and Isabella was ‘helping’ me with the garden. She was pulling up the weeds insisting that it was salad, and she kept giving bits to her Sister, who promptly put them in her mouth!! Not good nutritional value for an 8 month old. I then smelt the faint aroma of dog poo, the previous owner had a dog, so I was a bit worried about what I was going to find in the garden – apart from salad. I found where the smell was coming from and discarded it very quickly before Isabella picked it up and gave it to her sister as her pudding!
I finished the front garden and took the kids through to the back garden. It was an overgrown mess and we’d taken the strimmer to try to attack the small garden. My little one, Sienna then decided that she wasn’t happy, so I attempted to strim whilst rocking her with the other hand. It wasn’t very successful, so my husband, Alec ended up going back with the lawn mower later on. It was a lot quicker with the right equipment and without a baby to rock!
The gardens look great now and the house is nearly finished. Our tenant moves in on Saturday with her 2 young children. It’s exciting to see the project almost finished and it looks like a totally different house. That’s why I love property investing. I really enjoy seeing the transformation of the property at the end of the project.
