The Land Registry House price index for August reports that across England and Wales averages are down -0.3% in the month and -2.3% over the whole year.
This places the average house price at £162,347 – yet regionally this varies from the higher of London at £348,686 to the lows of the North East at £101,759.
Regionally this represents an actual increase in London of 2.1% over the year and 0.5% in the month, whereas the North East has seen a massive fall of -7.8% over the year, the largest of the regions, and -0.6% in the month.
House Completions
Along with a fall in the average house price, the number of completed house sales also fell by -13% to 54,776. Unsurprisingly the fall was even greater at -28% for properties in England and Wales over £1 million – down to only 465 houses.
