The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) house price index for September shows that UK house prices were up 1.2% compared to August 2009, although down 4.1% compares to a year ago (Sept 2008).
DCLG statistics go on to show that UK house prices rose by 3.1 per cent in the quarter ending September 2009. This compares with a smaller rise of 0.3 per cent for the quarter ending June 2009 (seasonally adjusted).
DCLG statistics are currently very similar to the Halifax HPI.
