My involvement in property originated in 1997 when I purchased my first investment property in my home town of Bolton. After refurbishment, the property was quickly let out and I was officially a landlord. Over the course of the next 10 years, my portfolio grew to a number of residential and commercial investment properties throughout the North West. During that time, I delved into development with a number of associates, including a barn conversion, new build apartment blocks and other renovation projects.
As the majority of these projects were bank funded, my connections with the various funding institutions grew organically, as did my understanding of development and construction funding on the whole. I had firsthand experience of bridge loans, development loans, mezzanine loans and other structured “products”, from both the high street and private sources.
Prior to the onset of the general economic slowdown, I made a decision to become a broker, employing my skills, knowledge and contacts to best place finance applications from builders and developers, and also to introduce various funding options and sources to builders and developers, who, on the whole, had previously relied on their high street bank for backing.
